To support the educational, social, and emotional development of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The role involves working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where students can thrive. Key Responsibilities: Classroom Support:
* Assist the teacher in delivering tailored lessons that meet the needs of students with SEN and SEMH.
* Provide 1:1 and small group support to students, helping them engage in learning activities.
* Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) under the guidance of the SENCO.
* Support students in developing literacy, numeracy, and social skills.
Behaviour and Emotional Support:
* Use de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour strategies to support students in managing their emotions and behaviours.
* Build positive, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and self-confidence.
* Help create a structured and calming learning environment for students with SEMH needs.
Pastoral Care:
* Provide emotional and pastoral support to students, ensuring their well-being.
* Work with students to develop coping strategies, resilience, and emotional regulation skills.
* Encourage students’ independence and self-esteem through positive reinforcement.
Collaboration and Communication:
* Work closely with teachers, therapists, SENCOs, and external agencies to support student progress.
* Communicate effectively with parents/carers regarding student progress and challenges.
* Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
General Duties:
* Assist with personal care needs where necessary, ensuring students’ dignity and comfort.
* Support students during transitions, break times, and extracurricular activities.
* Maintain accurate records and contribute to student reports when required.
* Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are always followed.
Person Specification: Essential:
* Experience working with children and young people with SEN and SEMH needs.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to remain calm, patient, and empathetic in challenging situations.
