Principal Civil or Highway Engineer
RPS are currently seeking an experienced Principal Civil / Highway Engineer to join our progressive business and service our clients. This role will be within the infrastructure team which could include Aviation or Highway based projects.Join our industry-leading team, we offer a wealth of in-house expertise across a variety of different sectors, with a focus on Aviation and/or the Highways sector. About The Design Business: RPS Design Division delivers projects across multiple, niche sectors which include Aviation, Highways, Civils, Structures, Architecture and more as we strive to achieve the right balance between form and function when faced with competing priorities around sustainability, materiality, cost and constructability. Digitalisation is at the core of our delivery model allowing our clients and their stakeholders to really experience our designs right from project concept stage and through drawing on expertise spanning decades, industries and disciplines, we assist clients to harmonise design drivers through inspired engineering, architecture and development services. What you’ll be doing: This is an exciting role for an individual looking to progress their career as a Principal Civil/ Highway Engineer within our industry leading team where we have an excellent reputation, offering a wealth of expertise in all sectors of infrastructure. Duties include:
1. Discipline lead for the production of 3D models using Civil 3D modelling software
2. Production of drawings from the 3D model
3. As the project lead, efficiently coordinate the production of detailed drawing and specification output applying expert technical knowledge in line with relevant legislation and industry standards
4. Perform project and drawing / model reviews to ensure technical requirements are achieved
5. Perform review of design calculations & basis of design assumptions relevant to role
6. Technical and design point of reference for the team
7. Technical specification and accurate report writing
8. High quality of design output working efficiently and overseeing the quality of technical / design output of junior colleagues
9. Review and comment upon consultants’ and contractors’ design proposals relevant to role
10. Ensuring team compliance with BIM protocols and office drawing standards, attend, and contribute to project and technical meetings with colleagues
11. Supporting the Director with preparation of tender/ bid documents, scope of service and fee proposal activity
12. Attend and contribute to project and client meetings and site inspections
Who we’re looking for: To be successful in this role you will ideally be Chartered or Incorporated with relevant professional body or Relevant degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent Level 6 qualification. Additionally, you will:
13. Be proficient in creating Civil 3D models and extracting sections and quantities from the model
14. Preferably experienced within the Aviation and/or the Highways sector and knowledge of industry design guides
15. Be experienced in the application of relevant design software
16. Demonstrate technical knowledge of relevant legislation and standards
17. Be experienced within modelling
18. Show commercial awareness and project management skills
19. Be experienced in line management and project management
