POSITION SUMMARY
The Float Medical Assistant is an integral part of the team concept in Wheeler’s health delivery system, which is devoted to the delivery of integrated primary care in an ambulatory setting with emphasis on prevention and health maintenance. This position helps patients by providing information, services, and assistance. The Medical Assistant supports the clinical staff in performing their duties, maintaining clinic environment to care and carry out the necessary functions required in accordance with established policies and procedures.
COMPENSATION
Eligible for a $100 scrubs/uniform allowance.
Hourly Rate: $18.50 for one year of experience; $20.00 for 2 plus years of experience. Bilingual Spanish speaking stipend available! $2,288 annually.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from a medical assistant program preferred, or certified as a CNA, EMT, PCA, or PCT plus 1 year experience in the field.
LOCATION
This will be a float position covering Hartford, New Britain, Waterbury, Plainville, and Bristol, CT.
SCHEDULE
Full time - 40 hours, no weekends or holidays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Shows patient to examination rooms and prepares them for MD, APRN, PA.
2. Verifies patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, reviewing medications, and confirming purpose of the visit; enters information into medical records.
3. Obtains patients' vital signs, height, and weight; enters into the medical record.
4. Maintains effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow.
5. Performs phlebotomy and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis based on programmatic need.
6. Performs medical support tasks under the supervision of APRN, RN.
7. Gives instructions to patients as instructed by MD, APRN.
8. Ensures all related reports, labs, and information are available in patients’ medical records prior to their appointment.
9. Follows up and tracks referral statuses ensuring referrals have been sent and received in a timely fashion.
10. Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
11. Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventative maintenance; calling for repairs.
12. Takes telephone messages and provides feedback and answers to patient/MD/ APRN/PA/pharmacy calls.
13. Triages and processes messages from patients and front office staff to MD, APRN, PA.
14. Maintains all logs and required checks (e.g., refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change).
15. Enhances practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
16. Must be able to pass a respirator fit test at time of hire and on an annual basis.
17. Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.
