The Medical Division at Mid Yorkshire Teaching Hospitals provides Acute care across the range of medical specialities in a large modern purpose-built hospital in Wakefield, which includes a large Acute Assessment Unit, Acute Elderly Assessment Unit, Coronary Care and Acute (Respiratory) Care Unit. We also provide care for Acute Elderly Admissions and step-down care for patients in a less acute phase of their admission at Dewsbury & District Hospital. Successful applicants will support the Cardiology specialty team in the management of their in-patient & outpatient workload and will participate in the General Medicine Trust-wide out-of-hours cover across both hospital sites. Our Cardiology team is made up of a wide range of enthusiastic and passionate individuals including 15 consultants, 2 Specialty Doctors, 4 Specialty Registrars and 3 core trainees and 3 Foundation trainees. We have invaluable support from a team of specialist nurses based both in our trust and in the community. Our vision is to deliver patient centered, accessible and integrated services, as seamlessly as possible with primary care. With 11 Coronary Care and 26 Cardiology beds, new diagnostic facilities, and access to a full range of non-invasive and invasive cardiac facilities our team has access to exceptional, modern facilities as well as general imaging, including TTE and TOE, CTCA, CMRI (including stress MR) and Interventional radiology services. We have a fully established bradycardia pacing, complex device, and PCI service (excluding PPCI provided in the Tertiary Centre). We have an established Nurse-led heart failure service with community integration. The Service Role From a clinical perspective these posts will participate in the cross site senior trainee rota. The senior trainee rota is compliant with the 2016 junior doctor contract averaging 48 hours per week. The illustrative rota pattern is attached to this job description. Duties will be based primarily on our Pinderfields Hospital site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites. The main duties of the post will include: Provision of care with responsibility for the management of patients with acute and chronic conditions including complex cases. Referral of patients to other specialities as appropriate Out-patient activities - clinics Involvement in specialty and cross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings Involvement in relevant administration duties Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate Active involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities
