To help us navigate growth alongside our goals we’re on the hunt for a Part-Time Senior Mechanic and Cargo Bike Rider to join us in Birmingham.
About the role:
As a Senior Mechanic at Zedify, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our fleet is always up to standards for our riders to carry out their deliveries. You will be the point of reference for the depot's fleet, responsible for diagnosing and repairing a wide range of bicycle problems while learning to become an expert in our bikes.
As a Cargo Bike Rider, you will ensure efficient and timely delivery of packages to our valued customers while representing our partners' brand through excellent customer service.
The role is part-time, within the hub operating hours of 10am to 6pm, and you may be required to commit to weekend working.
What will you be doing?
SENIOR MECHANIC
* Manage a schedule of weekly preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance on our fleet to minimise OTR issues, as per the national fleet standards and processes for all vehicles including trikes, bikes, and e-vans in Birmingham.
* Service and repair fleet bikes & trikes, and associated equipment as required.
* Keep a record of maintenance and repairs made using our fleet management system so that these repairs can be assessed and referenced by the Hub Manager (HM) and central fleet team.
* Communicate effectively and regularly on the state of the fleet and any improvement suggestions with the HM and Head of Fleet (HoF).
* Manage the inventory of parts and tools required to maintain the fleet, communicating to the HoF when stock needs to be replenished.
* Line manage additional mechanics.
* Recover trikes and bikes stranded within the city with maintenance issues when required.
* Train new mechanics or mechanic first responders (normally riders) as required.
* Comply with all company policies, practices, and procedures.

CARGO BIKE RIDER
* Safely navigate assigned delivery routes using a company-provided bicycle.
* Pick up and deliver packages promptly and accurately while adhering to established delivery schedules.
* Provide exceptional customer service by interacting professionally with customers during deliveries and addressing any inquiries or concerns.
* Maintain a high level of professionalism and adhere to our partners' uniform and appearance standards.
* Use handheld devices and company-provided technology to scan packages, track deliveries, and update delivery status in real-time.
* Ensure packages are securely loaded and unloaded, preventing any damage during transportation.
* Report any discrepancies, delays, or other issues to the appropriate supervisor or manager promptly.
* Adhere to all traffic and safety regulations while cycling and operate the bicycle in a safe and responsible manner.
* Comply with all company policies, practices, and procedures.
* Actively strive to create a safe and dynamic working environment.
What skillset do you ideally need?
Essential criteria - you must be:
* Creative, methodical, and curious.
* Meticulous approach to organisation and cleanliness.
* Dynamic and hardworking.
* Physically fit and strong.
* Comfortable riding a range of bikes in an urban environment.
* Prepared to work unsupervised for long periods of time and able to use own initiative.
* Punctual, trustworthy, and very reliable.
Essential criteria - you must have:
* Demonstrate professional experience in maintaining and repairing bikes.
* At least 1 year of experience as a bike mechanic in a professional capacity.
* Ability to problem-solve light engineering issues.
* Good knowledge of electrical systems.
* Good communication with a friendly and approachable manner.
* A positive attitude.
* A genuine desire to help make our cities better places to be.
Desirable attributes – you should have at least some of these:
* A professional bike maintenance qualification.
* Experience working on electric bikes with an understanding of low voltage battery systems.
* Experience working on cargo bikes.
* Wider engineering skills/qualifications e.g., welding.
* Bikeability Level 3 qualification.
* Current first aid certificate.
Health
* You will need to be physically fit as the job includes:
* Heavy lifting and handling.
* Being able to communicate effectively over a phone (speaking & hearing).
