An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Licensing Officer to join the Licensing Team. As the successful post holder, you will undertake a wide range of duties across the Licensing Service. This includes taxi licensing and premises licensing (sale of alcohol and regulated entertainment), working closely with other teams within Preston City Council and external partners such as the Police, Immigration, and Trading Standards.
Working within a team of Licensing Technicians and reporting to the Licensing Manager, the job involves processing various licences in connection with the sale and supply of alcohol, regulated entertainment, taxi services, gambling, and a wide range of other licensable activities at the trainee end of the career grade.
Applicants should ideally have an ability to apply legal knowledge to resolve problems and a willingness to lead and undertake investigations and attend court/committee proceedings at the senior end of the career grade.
The role is fast-paced, and the post holder is required to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines. You should have good interpersonal and customer service skills and experience in dealing with confrontational situations. You will have the opportunity to work in a diverse and developing environment where you can have an input into managing change successfully.
Good administrative skills and an ability to communicate effectively with the public are essential requirements. Suitable candidates must also be able to plan, organise, and manage their own workloads, use time effectively, and work with the minimum of supervision.
The post is career graded and provides an excellent opportunity to further develop your licensing experience, including progression to Senior Licensing Technician, where you will carry out the full range of licensing duties including enforcement work. For those new to licensing work, there is an opportunity for appointment as Trainee Licensing Technician. Full training will be given, and ongoing support provided for those who wish to develop their licensing career.
Commencement salary will be dependent on your relevant experience. Appointment will be at either Trainee, Senior, or Licensing Technician level, with progression in accordance with the Career Grade Scheme.
