Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist / Physiotherapist

A rare opportunity has arisen to join the highly reputed City and Hackney Wheelchair Service. The role is for a senior occupational therapist or physiotherapist within the specialist interdisciplinary Wheelchair Service which includes Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Rehabilitation Engineering, Therapy Assistants (Technical Instructors) and Administrators. The team provides a comprehensive service of assessment, prescription and provision of wheelchairs and postural seating equipment for children and adults with long term physical disabilities.
Main duties of the job
You will undertake highly specialist assessment and intervention for children and adults with complex postural needs as an autonomous practitioner. The post will include working in a challenging socio-economic environment involving clients who have highly complex social problems and those from culturally diverse backgrounds. There are clinical and operational leadership opportunities, assisting with service developments and supervision of other team members with the support of senior clinicians and managers.

Person Specification
Knowledge, training and experience
* Degree / Diploma in Occupational Therapy/ Physiotherapy
* HCPC registration
* Relevant post graduate training in Postural Management
* Experience working with children and adults with long term conditions
* Member of relevant special interest group / PMG
* Experience working in a Wheelchair Service
* Experience working in the Community
* Clear, concise verbal and written reporting skills
* Excellent presentation skills of complex information
Analytical
* Ability to reflect and adapt practice to suit client's individual needs.
* Demonstrates ability to deputise for the Team Manager and or Clinical Specialist
* Supervision of staff and students including use of appraisal
Physical Skills
* Postural assessment skills for clients with complex physical disabilities
* Knowledge of the equipment range required for service provision
* Understanding of the technical aspects of mobility and seating equipment
* IT skills including Word, Excel and MS Teams
Other
* Ability to travel around the borough independently
* Understanding of the health needs of a diverse cultural and socio-economic community
