The company has been a leader in golf services in Ireland for 35 years, is expanding its business to the UK and is seeking to appoint an experienced golf course maintenance and agronomy expert to the role of Regional Superintendent, based in Hertfordshire. Job Description - Regional Golf Course Superintendent The Regional Golf Course superintendent is entrusted with overseeing the maintenance operations of our client’s golf courses. Carefully managing the maintenance inputs to the golf course while conserving and protecting natural resources. Directly influence the playing areas and landscapes with which golfers interact. Key Responsibilities Plans all maintenance and project work, applying agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve the agreed-upon maintenance standards and long-range goals. Develops and circulates site visit and course assessment reports to clients, highlighting KPI’s, objective analysis of the course, observations, issues and a task list of work to be completed. Supports our clients in their recruitment requirement and ensures staff receive training for the purpose of maintaining the venues. Supports the efficient scheduling and routing of personnel and equipment to accomplish the work as per the agronomic plan. Ensures our IT systems have data inputted correctly as per activities and reviews planned v actual work carried out. Prepares weekly reports for management on each venue to highlight achievements and issues. Inspects the golf course and related areas to evaluate how well management standards are being achieved and to effect necessary changes in management programmes. Acquires equipment and purchases necessary supplies to maintain the golf course. The Regional Superintendent is responsible for ensuring stock levels are maintained at a certain level. Co-ordinates with the Workshop & Equipment Manager on the equipment maintenance programmes and centralised machinery. Monitors the Preventative Maintenance programme by carrying out spot checks. Ensures each Course Manager / Head Greenkeeper keeps accurate and complete records on inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, etc. Communicates regularly with other members of the senior management group to discuss activities, goals, plans and member/client input. Progress reporting to Client and other relevant stakeholders with an eye to building and maintaining relationships. Key Skills Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management practices, a working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices and methods and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf. A high degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Knowledge of current laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations (including, but not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards). A member of the BASIS Professional Register and / or FACTS Qualified Advisers would be a distinct advantage. Participation in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, field days and trade shows. Licensed as a pesticide applicator / professional end user. Aware of current trends in the industry, keeping up to date with use of products and new products coming online.
