The successful candidate will be leading an enthusiastic and dedicated team of staff, volunteer trainees and volunteers managing 11 nature reserves covering 650ha including Greenham and Crookham Commons; BBOWT’s flagship lowland heathland site at the heart of the West Berkshire Living Landscape, Snelsmore Common SSSI and Thatcham Reedbeds SAC.
What you’ll be doing:
* Overseeing all aspects of reserve management on the Trust's western land holdings in Berkshire
* Managing the Western reserves team including staff, volunteers and trainees
* Creating, overseeing, implementing and monitoring successful delivery of the annual work plan
* Writing, implementing and supervising large and complex contracts to achieve annual project programmes
* Ensuring successful application for, implementation, delivery and compliance with agri-environmental schemes
What we’re looking for:
* In-depth knowledge and skills of applied nature conservation management and practical site management
* Understanding of ecological principles, habitat management and assessment for a range of habitat types including lowland heathland
* The skills and knowledge required to effectively manage staff, volunteers and contractors
* Contract, project management and agri-environmental scheme experience
* The ability to deal with, and present information to, a broad range of audiences including the public, Trust members and volunteers in a friendly and professional manner in a variety of situations
