Job summary We are seeking a dedicated and experienced DCO to join our North Cumbria team. Main duties of the job The remit of the post covers Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) for the ICB. The post holder will act as a point of expertise for all aspects of SEND, and the Designated Clinical Officer function (DCO), i.e., advisory, strategy, leadership, governance, policy, relationships, and connections within the Local Delivery Team. You will be responsible for providing delegated SEND leadership according to your workstreams. Alongside the Head of SEND you will have oversight of performance and activity relating to services that deliver to Children and Young People with SEND to inform the ICB and support, enable and resolve Local Delivery Team (LDT) challenges by DCOs. Person Specification Qualifications Essential Registered clinical professional with evidence of current professional registration. Degree level qualification or evidence or academic achievement. Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area. Desirable Significant evidence of post registration continued professional development / Postgraduate leadership and/or management qualification Experience Essential Have substantial clinical experience as a professional working with children and young people and / or SEND Highly developed and specialist knowledge in relation to the SEND agenda and relevant legislation, local and national policy and good practice guidance. Understanding of the NHS, social care, and local authority 'landscape' and interdependencies. Appreciation of evidence and thinking relating to LDT areas and partnership working which reduce health inequality, improve patient services. Experience of successfully operating in and delivering priorities in a partnership environment. Demonstrable experience in managing highly sensitive situations with patients, families, or carers and/or with wider advocating agencies. Advanced specialist knowledge in SEND. Good understanding of Inspection frameworks in relation to SEND. Ability to work with parents & carers to fulfil statutory SEND requirements.
