Your next role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Experienced Social Worker, or equivalent Occupational Therapist, Nurse, Psychologist level, post to join the MCA/DoLS Team at Swindon Borough Council. The position requires successful completion of the Best Interests Assessors post-graduate training.
The Swindon Borough Council MCA/DoLS Team not only manages all processes related to the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards legal framework it also provides a skilled and practical resource to the wider Adult Social Care Teams in regards to the application of the Mental Capacity Act.
You will be routinely undertaking Best Interests assessments and related tasks under the direction of the Team and Assistant Team Managers within the MCA/DoLS Team whilst developing the service that is going to be taking place in the near future due to the introduction of the Liberty Protection Safeguards.
Your excellent understanding and application of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 in addition to your up to date knowledge, skills and post-graduate qualification to carry out the Best Interests Assessors role under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards legislative framework makes you our ideal candidate.
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
You must hold a formal social work degree and be Social Work England registered to apply for this post.

Our Adult Practitioners’ induction
A practitioner-specific, Swindon-specific induction programme, aimed at providing you with the information you need regarding the policies and procedures of Adult Social Care at Swindon Borough Council.
The induction programme incorporates a blend of face-to-face activities and e-learning modules aimed at consolidating and reviewing your knowledge of the key areas.
These key areas include:
* Understanding how to use our case management system
* Understanding the Safeguarding and Quality Assurance policies and procedures
* Understanding and using a strength-based approach
Improvements include:
* Multi-million pound investment in staff and support
* Significant restructure creating smaller social worker teams
* New intuitive IT system to cut down on desk time and make mobile working the norm
* High standards for management practice, support and supervision for staff
* Listening to our social workers by holding regular social work forums
* Implementing Liquid Logic and will be using this system from October 2023.
