This brand new role as Patient Engagement Lead will be split between Patient Engagement and Healthcare Assistant. We envisage a 70%-30% split of the two roles. This is a rare opportunity to engage with prisoners and make a difference to their time in prison, as well as help prepare them for release. As our new Patient Engagement / Healthcare Assistant, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:
* Your main focus overall will be to encourage prisoners to engage with the healthcare team - encouraging them to attend appointments, have vaccinations, tests etc
* You will be the champion for health promotion - liaising with prisoners and the wider healthcare team
* Be the first point of contact for complaints, escalating where necessary
* Helping patients to plan for release - registering with a GP, make sure appointments are up to date etc
* Contribute to, and implement care packages, assist with health promotion, wellbeing and clinics
* Support the nursing and pharmacy teams in primary care on the wings and healthcare centres

HMP Altcourse is the busiest remand prison in the country, with a capacity of nearly 1200 inmates. As we are a remand prison, we have a high turnover of prisoners - in the last 12 months we have had 6,500 people enter the prison! This offers a challenging, yet rewarding environment where no two days are the same! Hours: This is a full time role, 37.5 hours per week, and you will work on a rota basis across 7 days. You will work 3 long days ( 07:00 - 20:00) per week, with very occasional night shifts. Salary: This position is full time, youll receive an annual salary up to £27,195 per annum - depending on experience. How will we support you?
