An opportunity has arisen as the Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Lambeth Older Adults Community Mental Health Team. This is an ideal post for someone looking to develop their clinical leadership and management skills within a team of skilled professionals. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated applicants who are committed to working with older adults and want to challenge themselves to develop their clinical and leadership skills in a fast-paced CMHT environment. The successful applicants will have a proven ability to lead in implementing and sustaining changes, sound clinical skills, and an ability to work collaboratively bringing people together.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist will ensure that the care delivered by the team will be evidence-based and provided in a compassionate and caring way. The role will support the Community Matron and Head of Nursing to drive the programme for Quality and Professional standards within the team and ensure that the delivery of high-quality care is consistent with the CQC fundamental standards, Safeguarding principles, Trust values, and the Trust and operational strategic objectives.
The post holder will have advanced clinical expertise in assessing, working, and caring for Older Adults with complex mental health needs in a community setting. You will hold responsibility for ensuring that all team members participate in audit, evaluation, and research to achieve positive clinical outcomes for patients and their families. You will be the lead clinician in training, education, and development. The post holder will empower and involve service users and carers through effective engagement and strategies that support social inclusion and recovery. Core to this will be management of risk, medication management, brief interventions, CBT, and family working. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will be a role model for good practice for the team and will be expected to lead by example.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist will work alongside the Team Manager and other senior members of the team in leading the team from a clinical and operational perspective.
Working for our organisation
The Lambeth CMHT is multidisciplinary in nature and offers care and treatment to those over 65 with mental health diagnoses and those diagnosed with Dementia requiring input at any age across the borough of Lambeth. This post offers a chance to learn and develop a broad portfolio of skills within a new and supportive management structure. Regular supervision will be provided to enable development into the role, along with opportunities to identify and meet learning needs. The Directorate supports career development and retention.
The role is a band 7, full-time post open to Nurses with a current clinical registration. The team is based at the Lambeth Hospital in Stockwell, which is a 10-minute walk from Clapham High Street and the Clapham North Tube station with multiple nearby transport links.

Person specification
Education and Qualifications
* RMN Nursing qualification: Degree/Diploma with current NMC registration
* Training in clinical supervision such as ENB 998/mentorship or equivalent.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
* MSc or working towards
Experience
* Significant experience of working in a community psychiatric team/home treatment team/liaison
* Experience and ability to function as a specialist practitioner with advanced clinical expertise in working and caring for older adults with complex needs and their carers in a community setting
* Evidence of good practice in holistic assessments
* Evidence of experience in clinical governance and audit
* Evidence of receiving and providing clinical supervision
* Experience working with older adults with dementia or mental health problems
* A good working knowledge of mental health disorders that affect older adults
* Evidence of competency in clinical judgement and risk assessment in older adults
* Evidence of interpersonal and engagement skills in older adults
Knowledge
* A good working knowledge of mental health disorders that affect older adults
* Good working knowledge and competency in physical health screening and monitoring.
* A good working knowledge of relevant mental health legislation: Mental Health Act/ Mental Capacity Act/ Deprivations of Liberties (DOLS) Child and Adult safeguarding
* Evidence of using safeguarding adults/children in practice effectively in older adults
