Our global motorcycle manufacturing client is urgently looking to fill the following role:
Studio Engineer Motorcycles - Market Rate (Inside IR35) - Leicestershire - 3-6 Months (potential to extend)
Job Requirement:
The role of Studio Engineer is tailored to a creative engineer with high-quality design skills. Working amongst a diverse team spanning the UK and overseas locations, you will be influential in the creative stages of the development of new motorcycles. With strong 3D digital modelling experience and a solid understanding of automotive engineering/model engineering, you'll build and develop the digital models needed to deliver. Your main goal will be solving specific design problems and working on whole system designs; flair, aesthetic judgement, and creativity are therefore essential.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Work with other members of the Product Strategy and Concept team, along with designers from the Industrial Design team to generate and present new product concept ideas for, and to, senior management;
2. Translate strategic and functional objectives into technical requirements;
3. Develop and enhance existing methods and processes;
4. Establish target BOM and investment prices for new vehicle programmes;
5. Identify cost reduction opportunities and mass saving opportunities;
6. Conduct technical benchmarking and analysis of competitive vehicles;
7. Support the Studio Design Team to enable the delivery of surfaces representative of the design intent while integrating engineering constraints;
8. Work directly with the Physical Modelling and Engineering teams to develop 3D Digital model data for presentation models and prototypes;
9. Generate High Integrity data as necessary - ideally to defined A class standard - suitable for transfer into other CAD systems (principally Creo);
10. Produce parametric models natively in Creo.
Skills Required:
1. At least three years' experience in automotive OEM or independent studio working with OEM;
2. Experience in parametric solid modelling (Creo) to a high standard;
3. A strong degree of engineering experience;
4. Proven record of bringing motorcycle, scooter, or automotive digital models to styling sign-off will be a definite advantage;
5. Outputting digital models by rapid prototype output to SLS, SLA, etc.;
6. Experience in clay/foam milling is a plus;
7. A passion for motorcycles and familiarity with the motorcycle market;
8. Ability to work on a wide variety of components at one time, balancing workload and prioritising to create the optimum output;
9. Can-do attitude with initiative and confidence to get stuck in and get 'hands dirty'.
Skills Preferred:
1. Experience in concept modelling and A class modelling;
2. Experience in 3D scanning & surfacing of scan data (Alias) is a plus.
Additional Information:
This role is on a contract basis and is Inside IR35.
