Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Room Leader to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for early childhood education and experience working with children in a childcare or nursery setting. As a Room Leader, you will play a crucial role in managing daily operations, ensuring the highest standards of care and education for the children in our care. Your leadership skills will be essential in guiding staff and fostering a positive environment for both children and team members.
Duties
To lead and manage the baby room, ensuring the highest standard of care and education is provided for children aged 0-18mths. The Baby Room Leader will create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment, support the development of babies, and lead a team of practitioners to deliver exceptional early years education in line with the EYFS framework.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Management
o Lead and supervise the baby room staff, ensuring they deliver high-quality care and education.
o Plan and implement age-appropriate activities and routines that meet the developmental needs of babies.
o Act as a mentor to staff, providing guidance, support, and role modelling best practices.
o Conduct regular staff observations and feedback sessions to maintain high standards of practice.
2. Care and Development
o Ensure the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of all babies are met, promoting their health, safety, and well-being.
o Build strong, caring relationships with babies, providing comfort and security.
o Monitor each baby’s development and maintain accurate records in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
o Identify and support children with additional needs, working with parents and external professionals as required.
3. Parent Partnership
o Build and maintain positive relationships with parents and carers, ensuring open communication about their child’s progress and daily routines.
o Provide regular updates and feedback to parents, offering advice and support where needed.
o Organize and participate in parent meetings and events.
4. Health and Safety
o Ensure the baby room environment is clean, safe, and well-maintained, meeting all health and safety requirements.
o Follow policies and procedures for safeguarding, health, and hygiene.
o Conduct risk assessments for the baby room and activities, ensuring hazards are minimized.
o Administer first aid and medication as needed, following nursery protocols.
5. Planning and Organisation
o Plan, prepare, and review age-appropriate activities and resources to support babies’ learning and development.
o Ensure the baby room is well-resourced and organized to meet the needs of the children.
o Work collaboratively with the wider nursery team to ensure smooth transitions for babies moving to the next room.
Person Specification:
Qualifications:
* Level 3 (or higher) qualification in Early Years Education and Childcare (Essential).
* Paediatric First Aid qualification (Essential).
* Food Hygiene Certificate (Desirable).
Experience:
* Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with babies in an early years setting (Essential).
* Experience in a leadership or senior practitioner role (Desirable).
* Proven track record of delivering high-quality early years education and care.
Skills and Knowledge:
* Strong understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
* Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate activities for babies.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with parents, staff, and external professionals.
* Ability to lead and motivate a team.
