A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Data Protection Officer to join the Pavers Head Office Team at Northminster Business Park, York. This is a new position to join our growing Data Team. This role is offered as a full-time permanent opportunity in a growing business, where you are encouraged to develop your skills in a supportive environment.
Our Data Team have a key role to play in the business’s operations, and you will play a crucial role in keeping us on the right side of regulatory adherence and risk. You’ll lead as a subject matter expert, educating colleagues and teams to cultivate strong governance adherence and best practices for all areas of the business.
You’ll report into the Head of Data, promoting clear and transparent communication with customers about how their data is used and ensure that data processing is conducted lawfully, fairly, and in a manner that respects individual rights, whilst keeping detailed records of all data processing activities, including purposes, data categories, and data flows.
Key Responsibilities for our Data Protection Officer
Regulatory adherence, ensure the company's data processing activities comply with UK GDPR and other relevant legislation.
Policy implementation, developing and application of data protection policies, procedures, and standards.
Audits and assessments assessing compliance levels and identify areas for improvement for processing activities that pose high risks to individual rights and freedoms.
Recommend measures to mitigate identified risks in data processing operations.
Develop and deliver training programmes to educate colleagues
Promote a culture of data protection within the organisation.
Serve as the primary contact for the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) on data protection matters.
Coordinate the reporting of data breaches and other incidents to the ICO as required by law, determining when it is necessary to notify the ICO and affected individuals about a breach.
Developing and implementing procedures for detecting, reporting, and investigating personal data breaches.
Embedding data protection principles into the development of new products, services, and business processes, collaborating with other business functions as required.
Evaluate third-party vendors and service providers for compliance with data protection laws.
Stay informed about changes in data protection laws and guidelines issued by the ICO, updating policies and practices.
Advise on the implementation of appropriate technical measures to protect personal data.
Oversee the security of physical records and devices that store personal data.
What you’ll need to be our Data Protection Officer:
Must be a certified Data Protection specialist (CIPP/E) and be experienced implementing the necessary controls, polices and processes to ensure compliance and data protection success
Previous experience in a Data Protection Officer role desirable.
A deep understanding of GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and related regulations.
Proven track record of managing data protection and privacy in a professional setting.
Able to curate effective learning materials on Data Protection.
Ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively to a wide range of stakeholders at all levels .
Experience of assessing risks, developing mitigation strategies, and implementing them.
Detail orientated, with a focus on continuous improvement.

Salary: £45,000 to £50,000, depending on experience
