In this role, the Materials & Stores Lead will manage the efficient operation of our warehouse and inventory storage functions. They will oversee the receipt, storage, and distribution of materials and products, ensuring that stock levels are maintained, and all goods are handled according to the company’s safety and quality standards. They will be responsible for optimising storage space, the day-to-day management of the stores team, and will work collaboratively with other departments to meet production and delivery schedules.
Key Accountabilities
Inventory Management
1. Manage and oversee the storage, retrieval, and timely dispatch of goods.
2. Monitor inventory levels and ensure the availability of materials required for production.
3. Implement and maintain effective inventory control systems (including ERP systems) to avoid overstocking or shortages.
4. Conduct regular inventory audits and cycle counts to ensure accuracy.
Stock Control
1. Develop and implement stock control strategies to optimize storage space and minimize costs.
2. Ensure that all materials are labelled and stored in accordance with company policies and safety regulations.
3. Maintain accurate records of stock transactions, including receiving, issuance, returns, and stock adjustments.
Collaboration and Coordination
1. Work closely with the procurement team to coordinate the purchase and delivery of materials.
2. Collaborate with suppliers to resolve issues related to delayed or damaged goods.
Warehouse & Logistics Operations
1. Manage the warehouse layout to ensure efficient flow of goods and materials.
2. Oversee loading and unloading operations to prevent damage and ensure safety compliance.
Health and Safety
1. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper handling and storage of hazardous materials.
2. Conduct risk assessments and implement safety protocols within the warehouse environment.
3. Ensure that all equipment used in storage and handling is regularly maintained and inspected.
Reporting & Performance
1. Prepare reports on stock levels, inventory turnover, and stores performance.
2. Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to inventory accuracy, order fulfilment, and storage efficiency.
What We’re Looking For
To thrive in this role, you should bring:
1. Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business management, logistics, or a related field.
2. Significant work experience in inventory or warehouse management within a manufacturing environment.
3. Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop a high-performing team.
4. Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintaining focus on key deliverables.
5. Strong ability to communicate openly and authentically in all situations.
6. Proficiency in IT systems, particularly Microsoft Office, ERP/MRP systems, and production management software.
7. In depth knowledge of inventory management, warehouse operations and safety regulations.
8. IOSH Managing Safely certification is desirable.
