About the role
This role has been created to offer a recent graduate the opportunity to join our Data Science Unit as a trainee.
Supported by a mentor and working with experienced data scientists, the trainee will gain experience in a wide variety of data science work and, if appropriate, may have the opportunity to complete a Level 7 apprenticeship or MSc.
The team typically works on issues such as detecting examiner biases, automating natural language answer marking, and generating new exam questions. They also work on problems such as predicting future exam entries and customer churn.
As a graduate trainee, you will learn how to help with:
1. Developing and supporting machine learning and data analytics products for our internal customers.
2. Designing and executing data science projects, communicating findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
3. Translating business challenges into data science solutions and proposing new projects.
4. Continuously enhancing your knowledge and skills to stay ahead in this fast-evolving field.

About you
We're looking for someone with:
1. A BSc or MSc degree in a numerate or computational field such as statistics, applied maths, economics, natural science, psychology, computer science or data science, or equivalent experience
2. Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
3. A passion for learning and developing deep expertise
4. Proficiency in a programming language like Python, R or SAS
