The role
Chandler Macleod are currently sourcing a Senior Project Officer for our client, a Department of the Victorian State Government. The Team Leader, Freedom of Information (FOI) is located within the Integrity, Assurance and Executive Services Division (the division). The division provides expert advice and support to the department through a range of portfolio, advisory and assurance services.
The Team Leaders are responsible for managing complex FOI requests under the FOI Act. Team Leaders report to the Manager of the FOI Unit and support them to manage the team to process requests in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (the FOI Act). They apply their skills in other related contexts such as reviews and complaints before the Victorian Information Commissioner and appeals before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
They are expected to:
* Possess a sound knowledge of the FOI Act and experience processing complex FOI requests
* Build relationships with a range of stakeholders, support and promote the release of documents and make decisions under the FOI Act
* Operate within increased level of autonomy and accountability in delivering within broad strategic directions
* Provide leadership within the FOI Unit
* Possess excellent time management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively
* Prepare expert advice to senior departmental officers
Skills and Qualifications
* Knowledge of Freedom of Information theory and practice
* Experience in a government department or agency or similar context, with practical understanding and experience working with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (the Act)
* Tertiary qualification in Legal or similar discipline will be highly regarded
