We are looking for a pharmacy technician to join our team at Merchiston Surgery and Hawthorn Medical Centre with a passion for primary care and working with our patients and staff. You will join a PCN pharmacy team of experienced pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pre-registration pharmacy technicians. There is an ethos of support and openness to pushing boundaries to keep growing the role of the pharmacy technician. Working with us will bring you a varied role with lots of opportunities to learn new skills, including the CPPE PCPEP pathway.
Main duties of the job
Providing support to Clinical Pharmacists in managing daily patient prescription requirements. To include the resolution of patient/pharmacy queries, focusing on:
1. Out of stock medications
2. Pharmacy queries
3. ETP queries
Managing and processing discharge summaries and clinical letters.
Undertaking patient-facing and patient-supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use, through shared decision-making conversations with patients.
Running Medication Review clinics either patient-facing or virtually, including in Care Homes.
To include carrying out medicines optimisation tasks including effective medicine administration (e.g. checking inhaler technique), supporting medication reviews and medicines reconciliation.
Providing specialist expertise, where competent, to address both the public health and social care needs of patients, including lifestyle advice, service information, and help in tackling local health inequalities.
MHRA Alerts
Managing MHRA alerts and actions, including leading the receipt and understanding of the alert, communicating with PCN contacts and completing all associated actions.
Audits
Undertaking clinical audits, supporting quality improvement measures and contributing to QOF and enhanced services.
Assisting in the delivery of medicines optimisation incentive schemes and patient safety audits.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Professional registration with GPhC
* BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences
* Evidence of continued professional development (CPD)
* Previous experience working in Primary Care
* Experience of working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community or hospital pharmacy
Experience
* Relevant advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of general practice and evidence-based medicine
* An appreciation of the NHS agenda and government targets
* Awareness of systems to support management of patients in a primary care setting, delivering pharmaceutical input and support in the context of pathways of care and the business of the organisation
* Good clinical pharmacy knowledge including terminology
* An appreciation of the nature of primary care prescribing, concepts of rational prescribing and strategies for the improvement of prescribing
* Knowledge and understanding of pharmacy law and ethics and current legislation
* Demonstrate ability to influence and persuade partners and stakeholders of the respective merits of different options, innovations, new opportunities and challenges
