About the Role
As a Senior Health & Safety Officer you would coordinate and enhance health and safety compliance across our campus. This role is crucial in fostering a safe and secure environment for our students, staff, and visitors. You will lead the implementation of health and safety policies, ensuring our campus adheres to the highest standards.
What You'll Do:
•Promote Safety Awareness: Actively encourage a culture of health and safety awareness and compliance through information dissemination, training, support, and initiatives.
•Policy Implementation: Lead the execution of health and safety policies and procedures at the campus level.
•Training Coordination: Ensure an adequate number of trained first aiders and fire wardens are available on campus at all times.
•Collaboration: Work with the People team to identify health and safety training needs and arrange for external trainers as necessary.
•Delegation: Collaborate with the Senior Building and Maintenance Officer and Senior Technician to delegate health and safety tasks, including routine testing, inspections, audits, risk assessments, and addressing accidents and near misses.
•Software Management: Oversee the deployment and use of health and safety software/systems on campus.
•Compliance Assurance: Ensure all external venues and activities comply with health and safety standards.
•Data Monitoring: Collect, monitor, and report on health and safety performance data.
•Issue Resolution: Address non-compliance concerns and escalate issues to the Building and Technical Services Manager when necessary.
•Incident Investigation: Support the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near misses.
•Operational Support: Provide support to the wider Building & Maintenance Services team as needed.
What You'll Bring:
•Good standard of general education, including English and Maths.
•Extensive understanding of health and safety legislation.
•Proven experience in carrying out risk assessments, health and safety inspections, and audits.
•IOSH Qualification.
•Demonstrated success in deploying health and safety policies or procedures.
•Strong verbal and written communication skills.
•Excellent inter-personal and collaboration skills.
•Adaptable and responsive to changing needs.
•Competent in using digital tools and software.
This is a part time role based on working 18.75 hours per week.
