The Opportunity:
Long Term Futures is looking for a compassionate and proactive Pastoral Support Assistant to join a secondary school in Waltham Forest. This role is focused on supporting students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs, helping them navigate their challenges both inside and outside of the classroom.
The successful candidate will work closely with the pastoral team, SENCo, and teachers, providing 1:1 mentoring, small group interventions, and behavioural support to ensure students remain engaged and supported in their education.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 mentoring and small group sessions to students needing SEMH support
Assist students in developing emotional resilience, self-regulation, and positive coping strategies
Work closely with the pastoral team and SENCo to implement individualised support plans
Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours, providing students with a structured and supportive environment
Support students both in-class and in pastoral support spaces, ensuring they remain engaged in their learning
Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external agencies to create a cohesive support network
Who We're Looking For:
Degree in Psychology or a related field (desirable)
Experience working in a secondary school setting, particularly in SEMH or pastoral support
Counselling skills or experience working with students with emotional and behavioural challenges (highly desirable)
Strong behaviour management skills with a calm and patient approach
Ability to build rapport and establish trust with students who need additional support
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting student well-being
Additional Information:
Full-time role, Monday to Friday
Paid up to £125 per day, term time only
Based in Waltham Forest, London, with excellent public transport links
