Title: Senior Connections Strategy Lead - NESO
Location: Warwick, GB, CV34 6DA
Division: NESO Connections
Job Type:
Requisition Number: 61677
Department: ESO
Job Function: Strategy
About the role
National Energy System Operator (NESO) is on a journey towards a sustainable and secure energy future. Together we build on this momentum, advancing the Electricity System Operator’s (ESO) plan for zero carbon operability of the electricity system by 2025.
The Customer Connections Team is a new team that supports the connection strategy development (e.g., Connections Reform, CP30, etc.) from a distribution perspective. A key focus will be on the transmission/distribution interface and enabling the Distribution System Operator transition. We will work closely with the Distribution Network Operator through the Electricity Network Association and internal stakeholders to highlight where our connection reform plans are at risk of non-delivery and help identify actions to resolve these risks. We will help deliver these actions, including supporting the implementation of our 5-point plan and identifying and putting plans in place to resolve any wider issues that will undoubtedly arise. A critical part of our work will be to engage internally and externally to ensure alignment and support across the industry, DNOs, and the NESO with the actions we will look to implement. While we have come a long way towards developing a reformed connection process, there is still plenty more to do, and this team is at the heart of delivering that ambition.
You will be based within the Customer Connections Team at NESO, which manages the connection of generation and demand to Great Britain’s high voltage electricity network. You’ll therefore be at the forefront of helping Great Britain transition rapidly towards a zero-carbon future that can deliver our climate change goals.
This role is based in Warwick, and we continue to offer hybrid working from the office and home. We are open to full-time and part-time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.
About you
We’re forging the path, and we know we can’t do it alone. That’s why we need visionary minds like yours to join us on this transformative journey. In this case, we’re looking for someone who has:
1. Ability to analyse and present complex issues, and understand the impact on the connections process, the electricity system, and the industry with a strong record of communicating these to internal senior management.
2. Experience of motivating, leading, and/or establishing business process improvements in a fast-paced, forward-thinking innovative environment whilst ensuring the best use of available talent and capacity.
3. Experience of working in a complex, customer-focused environment, preferably within a regulatory industry, which includes management of commercial contracts, change management, and dispute resolution.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate information in a way non-experts can understand.
5. Proven ability to build high-quality relationships both internally and externally and using those to achieve the required outcomes.
6. Proactive and positive can-do attitude and growth mindset with an ability to solve problems, manage uncertainty, identifying/resolving issues as they arise.
7. Knowledge of the GB electricity system.
Desirable (but not essential):
1. Knowledge of the T/D interface.
2. Knowledge of arrangements for connecting major generation and demand to the network.
