Job Description HSE Advisor - Submarines Days Derby An exciting opportunity for a HSE Advisor role has arisen within the New Build and Components Business, in Nuclear (Submarines). Reporting to the local HSE Manager and based on a sound understanding of the local HSE performance and risk profile, support implementation of HS&E management arrangements to ensure compliance with HSE requirements and support the drive towards a zero harm culture in support of RRSL’s priorities. You will maintain good risk management, including up to date business risk profiles, to keep leadership informed and drive prioritised improvement actions. Identify common issues and recommend risk-based improvement programmes, consistent with business or wider programmes as appropriate. What you will be doing: Set expectations and lead by example on the HS&E Journey to Zero Harm. Lead improvements to functional and business HS&E maturity by proposing and implementing changes. Engage across the business on initiatives to optimise the programme and to understand wider applicability. Co-ordinate a local risk-based assurance programme, including on compliance with legal and other requirements. Monitor progress and support business leaders to deliver their lower tier assurance plans. Interpret, communicate and drive action on trends and insights. Use assurance findings to improve risk management. Support delivery of good HS&E governance (structure, process and content) across the business, including the HS&E Accountability Framework, in partnership with management. Support on defining the HS&E and business agenda items, including improvement progress, and provide subject matter expertise to the meetings. Support improvements in the implementation of the HS&E management system, including Management and Control Standards and associated documents. Maintain registers of the standards and legislation that apply to the business, including an assessment of the compliance status, and initiate improvement programmes as appropriate. Ensure effective incident responses, communication and lead investigations as required. Coach managers to deliver active involvement in significant investigations and incident reviews. Support the delivery of investigation reports on significant incidents. Ensure effective learnings are shared across the business and learnings from elsewhere are considered to develop robust improvement plans in the business. To be successful in this role you will need to meet the following criteria: HSE related professional certificates. Chartered or working towards chartered membership of IOSH. Experienced in providing HSE advice and risk-based solutions. Have a proven track record in conventional safety, safety culture, improvement projects and HSE assurance. The ability to influence and facilitate ownership and commitment by good management and active participation. Good communication skills and the ability to integrate with other teams.
