Instrument Engineer
Location: Macclesfield (3 days on-site) / Hybrid (2 days WFH)
Rate: £50-55 per hour |Hours: 40 per week |Contract: 3-6 months
About the Role
We are seeking an Instrument Engineer to join our team in Macclesfield, supporting local projects with instrument design and consulting services. This role requires autonomy, strong communication skills, and a solid technical engineering design background.
Key projects include:
Effluent plant upgrade to PLC control
Process plant upgrade to Emerson DCS & functional safety improvements
Key Responsibilities
Work closely with multidisciplinary design teams and project managers to ensure efficient project delivery
Review and assess customer requirements
Provide resource estimates for design activities
Prepare reports, scopes of work, concept designs, and detailed designs (RIBA 2-4)
Ensure projects meet quality, cost, and time targets
Produce documentation in line with defined standards
Liaise with design and equipment subcontractors
Drive continuous improvement and apply innovative solutions
Interface with Mechanical, Process, HVAC, and Civil disciplines
Conduct site surveys and liaise closely with the installation team
Requirements & Experience
Minimum 5 years' experience in instrumentation design within pharmaceutical projects
HNC or Degree in a relevant engineering field
Experience in E&I design best practices
Knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015
Strong collaboration skills, comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams
Compex 12 (desirable) or significant hazardous area design experience
Functional safety qualification (IEC61511)
Experience producing SIL documentation, safety requirements specifications, and reliability assessments
Software Proficiency
AutoCAD LT (essential)
Navisworks & Revit (desirable)
Microsoft Office Suite
