Job title: Structural Engineer – (Dynamics)

Salary: From £35,802 – depending on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
* Performing simulation and analysis of structures and equipment subjected to dynamic loading
* Providing structural design guidance at design reviews with respect to naval shock load cases
* Following internal procedures and develop evidence of compliance through written calculations and reports
* Supporting the identification and rapid closure of issues emerging from all product lifecycle stages (i.e. build/production issues)
* Supporting in technical development and research activities, methods and acceptance criterion, liaising with industrial partners and external customers as necessary
* Supporting in the development of in-house simulation toolsets
Your skills and experiences:
Essential
* Mechanical Engineering Degree (or related STEM degree)
* Understanding of the principles of structural mechanics and dynamics
* Understanding of material strength properties (elastic and plastic properties)
Desirable
* Knowledge of MatLab and Python
* Finite Element Analysis software knowledge or a willingness to learn
* Knowledge of Fluid Structure Interaction

The Dynamics Team:
The Dynamics Team are responsible for demonstrating a vessel’s systems continued functionality after experiencing shock loading caused by Naval Underwater Explosion Events (UNDEX). You will also be given extensive support to develop your knowledge within the key areas of the Dynamics Team. As an Engineer within the Dynamics department, you will undertake complex simulation and analysis of structures and mounting systems which support and protect vital equipment from high acceleration levels during naval shock events. You will use hand calculation and numerical methods to assess structures and correlate to test evidence, while also providing structural design guidance to both internal and external stakeholders at design reviews. You will assist with department level improvement activities.
