Salary: Band 7 (£48,788 - £56,747)
Contract: 2 years fixed term.
Hours: 37 per week
This is a new and exciting collaboration between Dementia UK and NHS Borders. Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses who offer expert practical, clinical and emotional support to families involved in the care of a person living with dementia with complex needs. Based within Primary Care, you will work in collaboration with multi-disciplinary community teams and alongside nurses, primary care, mental health, social care, and third sector providers, among others. You will also benefit from being a part of a Clinical Network of Admiral Nurses working across the UK.
For the Admiral Nurse post, we are looking for an exceptionally skilled Registered Nurse (adult/mental health/learning disability) with a passion for, and significant demonstrable track record of, providing person-centred and relationship-centred dementia care with a strong sense of advocacy and equalities for this client group. Combining direct work with families with supporting the best practice of health and social care professionals, you will call upon your impressive knowledge of bio-psychosocial interventions to improve the experience and quality of life of families affected by dementia.
The post holder will need to have the ability to work in a variety of settings across a significantly rural geography. The role will include seeing carers and families individually as well as balancing a clinical caseload, all whilst setting up, developing, maintaining, and evaluating a new service. Experience in service evaluation and monitoring would be advantageous.
Dementia UK will support you to maintain and strengthen your clinical expertise as a specialist Admiral Nurse through regular clinical supervision and professional development opportunities. You’ll become a welcome part of a network of Admiral Nurses and will have the opportunity to access relevant post-graduate training and develop professionally, informed by the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework as well as access NHS Borders education and training opportunities.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part-time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37-hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
