We currently have 3 fantastic opportunities available as a Laboratory Scientist in Microbiology to join our Science and Water Quality team working in Exeter. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary from £26,050 to £32,724 per annum plus additional payments for weekend working, excellent benefits and rewards. About the role: As our Laboratory Scientist, you will beusing your methodical, excellent attention to detail skills, blended with analytical expertise to undertake the scientific analysis of samples associated with the company’s activities and commercial contracts. You will be part of a working environment where you will be taking ownership and responsibility for your own workload and working collaboratively as a team player. This role requires you to be flexible around workload and rota patterns, as well as being able to demonstrate your ability to remain calm under pressure and provide an efficient service. Shift Patterns: Working of average 37 hours per week, the role requires working on a rota pattern specific to the department, including weekends and bank holidays. Working hours are typically 9:00 to 18:15 each day. However, some flexibility is required to ensure essential analysis is completed by day end. Enhancements are paid for weekend/bank holiday working.Once fully trained you will participate in standby rota.
What you will be doing:
1. Undertaking Microbiological analysis by approved company methods and maintaining good laboratory records required for an accredited laboratory
2. Adhering to the requirements of our UKAS accreditation to meet ISO 17025 as described in our Quality Manual,, auditing, proficiency testing, validation
3. Maintaining a record of Continuing Professional Development and proof of your ongoing competence
4. Using information and data on samples to determine result validity, and form decisions regarding certification and instigation of further actions
5. Reporting of results to customers and answering internal customer queries as required
6. Investigating and documenting procedure breeches through non-conforming work
7. Being involved, as necessary in the training of other laboratory personnel
8. Complying with and improvement of Health & Safety procedures
9. Once trained participate in a stand-by rota for provision of emergency service out of hours as required
What we are looking for:
10. Applicants must have a minimum of an A level / BTEC level 3 or equivalent in a Biology/ Chemistry field
11. Computer literate including experience of Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel)
12. Experience of working on own initiative and as part of a team
13. Good communication skills, both verbal and written
14. Organised with a methodical approach to workload and ability to prioritise
15. Excellent attention to detail with well-honed problem-solving skills
16. Willing to participate in Laboratory Scientist progression scheme to develop skills and increase responsibilities
17. Experience of working in an ISO 17025 environment (desirable but not essential)
18. Ideal for an individual who has recently qualified in a science related field or is looking to develop their skills to build a scientific career.
19. We would consider a candidate with a science qualification up to Masters level or relevant experience in water analysis.
