Position Summary
This position is responsible for the design, setup, preparation, marking, and supervision of community and hospital dispensing labs with annual updates to align with the current Compendium of Pharmaceuticals and Specialties (CPS) as well as Provincial and Federal Drug laws. Responsibilities also include setting up demonstrations for non-sterile compounding labs, demonstrations, and maintenance of equipment (Pyxis machine, unit dose packing machine) and pharmacy software programs.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Conducts laboratory demonstrations, provides assistance to students, and supervises laboratory activities. Responds to students’ inquiries pertaining to laboratory matters and related subject material, referring students to instructors as required.
* Prepares laboratory and instructional support materials for laboratory and class activities.
* Participates in the recruitment of practicum sites and is responsible for communications with Preceptors and students at practicum sites.
* Prepares, administers, invigilates, and marks dispensing and compounding labs.
* Prepares and maintains accurate records of student laboratory and examination performance.
* Performs a wide variety of tasks relative to the operation, purchase, and maintenance of laboratory apparatus and equipment.
* Ensures that the laboratory premises are clean and orderly and that laboratory materials are stored properly.
* Maintains safe conditions in the lab and classroom and works with hazardous materials in accordance with WHMIS requirements.
* Maintains inventory records. Monitors, orders, and receives equipment and supplies.
* Assists in the preparation, development, and writing of new laboratory activities, lab manuals, and assignments.
* Advises, directs, and supervises students as required.
* Assists students and instructors in the use of computers in the classroom and labs. Uses and maintains pharmacy software programs and equipment in the department.
* Coordinates or participates in laboratory session scheduling.
* Enters and maintains confidential information in HSPnet.
* Attends advisory committee meetings.
* Liaises with the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada.
* Purchases supplies required for classroom and lab activities.
* Receives supplies and processes payment to vendors.
* Launders lab towels/washcloths.
* Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
* Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program and over 4 years related experience or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.
* Pharmacy Technician: Current registration with the College of Pharmacists of BC.

* Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, supervisors, and staff.
* Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage several time-sensitive tasks at any given time.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and accurately.
* Experience using software applications for classroom instruction and inventory purposes.
* Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and apparatus.
* Knowledge of WorkSafeBC WHMIS regulations.
* Ability to work variable hours.
Salary Range: Prorated based on FTE
PAYGRADE 26: $35.63 to $41.74 hourly
