The role:
* Work alongside the buyer, surveyors, and estimators for planning on new projects.
* Produce and manage procurement schedules and issue purchase orders.
* Arrange deliveries of materials to sites.
* Ensure timely material availability as per project specifications and schedules, including contingency planning.
* Negotiate with suppliers to achieve competitive procurement solutions, ensuring the best value for money.
* Maintain a supplier performance register to track potential issues.
* Maintain a PQQ register to ensure all suppliers have necessary policies and insurance documents.
* Conduct monthly budgeting, cost analysis, and reporting on financial metrics.
The candidate:
* Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar construction/groundwork buying role.
* Profound knowledge of the UK construction suppliers' market, including online sourcing.
* Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet strict deadlines.
* Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building abilities.
* Proficiency in budget control and cost analysis.
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
* IT literate with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other IT tools.
