The successful candidate will assist in managing the delivery of a robust Microbiology laboratory service to ELHT. Some duties include:
* Will work as a key member of the Departmental Management Team, which is responsible for the effective operational management and strategic direction of Microbiology at ELHT.
* Lead on sections within the laboratory.
* Will work in partnership with the Lead Biomedical Scientist, Laboratory Operations Manager and other senior staff, to develop and promote efficient and effective systems and processes in the management of the resources including finance, staff, information, equipment and space.
* Will take a proactive role in the continuing provision of a high quality and responsive service meeting UKAS accreditation requirements (ISO 15189).
* Will promote the continuous improvement in service delivery and quality within Microbiology.
* To assist in first line management for Biomedical Scientists and Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory assistants
* Will actively participate in departmental meetings within Microbiology.
Main duties of the job
To lead on the sections which includes managing the day to day aspects of those sections (and the wider service), to ensure that the needs of service users and performance targets are consistently met.
Working for our organisation
The post is full time (37.5h/w) and a flexible working approach will be required. The successful candidates will be required to work as part of the BMS team and will participate in the evenings, weekends, Bank Holiday and on call rotas.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential criteria
* Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (H.C.P.C)
* MSc (Biomedical Science) and/ or F.I.B.M.S or equivalent
* Able to work in a busy environment
* Comprehensive knowledge of, and skills in the application of, microbiological techniques and procedures
* Experience in the supervision of staff at various grades
* Effective knowledge of legislation and regulation relating to relevant safety and quality standards
* Effective keyboard skills and experience in working with Microsoft Office applications
Desirable criteria
* Experience of current analysers and methodologies in use within the Trust
* Experience of diagnostic molecular techniques
