Job Title: Principal Engineer – Nuclear (Mechanical)

Key Responsibilities:
* Liaise with the build organisation to ensure engineering support for the as-built product reflects design intent.
* Understand key requirements and critical dimensions for major structural components.
* Lead design changes affecting major structural components.
* Support or act as the engineering member of test and authorisation groups.
* Develop knowledge of the unique build sequence of the Reactor Compartment Unit and provide engineering support.
* Participate in planning and execution of major construction evolutions for the Reactor Compartment Unit.
* Present sound technical solutions to issues arising during Naval Reactor Plant construction.
* Provide technical rationale and recommendations to Rolls-Royce and MoD.
Your Skills and Experience:
Essential:
* Mechanical or Structural Engineering degree qualification.
* Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
* Awareness of weld engineering and non-destructive examination techniques.
* Technical report writing skills and experience of justifying design change.
Desirable:
* Knowledge of stress, fatigue, and thermal analysis.
* Nuclear radiation shielding awareness.
* Previous nuclear plant experience.
* Knowledge of the nuclear industry and its regulators.

About the Platform Nuclear Engineering Department Team:
As a Principal Engineer – Nuclear (Mechanical), you will be supporting design, build & test activities on the Naval Reactor Plant across multiple programmes to ensure design intent is met in the final product. This includes coordinating and leading the resolution of diverse issues that arise during the build and test of the reactor plant, developing technical solutions, and ensuring safety case adequacy, coupled with providing advice to various internal teams.
