The College of Biomedical and Life Sciences is currently looking to appoint two marketing and communications professionals to support activities across several schools within the College – School of Healthcare Sciences, School of Psychology, and School of Optometry and Vision Sciences.
The successful candidates will work to significantly enhance the way these Schools present themselves to the outside world, as well as communicating effectively with a diverse range of both internal and external customers and delivering a mix of communications activity that will inform, inspire, involve and influence.
We are seeking individuals with exceptional communication skills and the ability to interpret complex information into high quality, engaging and creative written copy. Experience of student recruitment, managing and implementing marketing campaigns and liaising with external agencies would be advantageous.
You will report directly to the Marketing and Communications Manager within the College of Biomedical and Life Sciences.

The posts will be assigned responsibility for a particular school(s) but may be required to provide support across the College as required.
These positions are full-time, 35 hours per week and are fixed-term until December 31st 2025.
Salary: £33,232 - £35,880 per annum (Grade 5); appointments are usually made at the bottom of the scale.

Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
Directly support the marketing and communications activities of academic Schools within the College of Biomedical and Life Sciences.
Significantly enhance the way our Schools present themselves to the outside world, as well as communicating effectively with a diverse range of both internal and external customers.
Deliver a wide range of marketing and communications activities that will inform, inspire, involve and influence.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
1. Develop, implement and maintain a communications and marketing strategy for the School.
2. Work with teams to develop communications plans in support of School strategy. Develop a programme of upcoming activity and make recommendations to improve communications impact and effectiveness.
3. Provide professional advice and guidance on all aspects of communication policy and practice, co-ordinating the School’s internal and external activity.
4. Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required.
5. Work collaboratively with communications staff at College level and across Cardiff University to ensure an integrated approach to marketing and communications.
6. Deliver a programme of marketing activity to support student recruitment within the School at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Work closely with colleagues across the university to maximise conversion and enhance student satisfaction.
7. Liaise closely with colleagues in the Central Communications Team to seek out positive news stories, write engaging copy, and deal with media enquiries.
8. Deliver high quality communications, ensuring consistency and compliance with the key communications messages of Cardiff University. Adhering to quality standards, branding, design, accessibility and textual style guidelines.
9. Produce high quality, engaging and creative written copy for a wide range of audiences and purposes including the website, press releases, marketing materials and newsletters.
10. Work with research and academic colleagues to develop communications outputs based on their research. Use judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensure complex and conceptual issues are understood.
11. Plan and deliver specific communications projects / campaigns as directed by the Marketing and Communications Manager.
12. To manage relationships with external agencies, including commissioning films, publications, photography and design work.
13. Undertake a variety of administrative duties as required to support the Marketing and Communications Manager.

Essential Criteria
1. Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience.
2. Substantial experience in a marketing or communications role including experience of digital marketing, website content management and social media.
3. Able to demonstrate professional knowledge within specialist discipline to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers.
4. Proven ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people, incorporating excellent writing skills and the ability to tailor communications to target a range of different audiences.
5. Proven ability to develop networks in order to contribute to long term developments.
6. Evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity; identify and propose both practical and innovative solutions.
7. Evidence of ability to undertake and deliver specific projects and supervise short term project teams.
8. Self-motivated with an enthusiastic, proactive, flexible and adaptable approach to work.
9. Evidence of developing a corporate identity/brand within industrial, educational or charitable organisations
Desirable Criteria
1. Postgraduate/Professional qualification.
2. Experience of working in a Higher Education environment.
3. Fluency in Welsh, written and oral.
