Your Role: Deputy Managing Editor - Classic FM
This is an outstanding opportunity to become the new Deputy Managing Editor at Classic FM, joining the senior management team of the UK’s most popular classical music station. Classic FM is a leading national radio station with 4.5 million weekly listeners and, with over 8 million followers on social media, is a renowned classical music brand across the globe. This is a rare and exciting chance to play a key role in shaping the output, management and strategy for a successful, vibrant, and hugely popular national radio station.
Key Responsibilities
1. Creative vision: Together with the Managing Editor you will devise and implement the creative direction of the station to engage and grow audiences.
2. Operational manager: You will play a vital role managing the day-to-day operations; guiding and coaching Classic FM’s presenters and producers, and linking with Global’s different departments.
3. Representing Classic FM: You will deputise for the Managing Editor and represent the brand at meetings and events, learning what it takes to become a Managing Editor.

What Success Looks Like
In your first few months, you’ll have:
* Built excellent working relationships with Classic FM’s Managing Editor, the Classic FM team, and key stakeholders at Global.
* Shown you’re effectively managing the day-to-day operations of the station.
* Developed new and successful ways to support and guide the programming team.
* Demonstrated you’re an effective people manager and leader.
* Devised and implemented ways to hone and improve the output.
* Managed key projects from conception through to delivery.
* Brought creative ideas to fruition that have engaged and built audiences.
* Shown you have what it takes to successfully deputise for the Managing Editor.
Experience You’ll Need
1. Radio production: At least 5 years’ experience producing audience-grabbing radio or a medium with transferrable skills.
2. Operational skills: Able to manage multiple projects and deliver them on tight timescales.
3. Classical music: Previous knowledge of classical music (this doesn’t necessarily need to be encyclopaedic if you can demonstrate a significant connection and passion).
4. Creative thinking: Can devise concepts, big and small, to engage Classic FM’s audiences of today and attract future listeners.
5. Talent management: Experience managing high-profile and highly talented individuals.
6. Stakeholder management: Able to identify and best serve key stakeholders.
7. People management: Demonstrable experience of managing an ambitious and diverse team of people.
8. Coaching and development: Skilled in nurturing talent by empowering and guiding individuals to unlock their potential.
9. Building trust: Can create and maintain an inclusive environment where diverse views and experiences are welcomed and celebrated in your team.
