Job Description:
* Lead by example, ensuring the workplace remains safe, efficient, and hazard-free. Report any safety concerns, near misses, or management risks.
* Take ownership of quality control, ensuring all products meet company and industry standards. Keep accurate records and maintain compliance with BRC policies.
* Oversee production output, ensuring machines meet planned targets. Address and report any discrepancies in daily production meetings.
* Keep waste to a minimum, particularly during design changes and machine changeovers, optimizing efficiency wherever possible.
* Verify quality standards before resuming production after any changeovers, and sign off on necessary checks.
* Complete all quality audits, paperwork, and system checks to ensure company and industry regulations compliance.
* Work collaboratively with various departments to manage production schedules and allocate resources effectively, ensuring on-time order fulfillment.
* Maintain accurate data entry in the IT manufacturing system, ensuring all relevant personnel log required information.
* Manage break schedules to ensure all employees take their designated breaks (3 x 20 minutes) without disrupting operations.
* Make key operational decisions during night shifts and weekends, keeping production running smoothly.
* Look for ways to improve efficiency, reduce waste, streamline processes, and enhance quality, safety, and housekeeping practices.
* Support, develop, and motivate your team, identifying training needs and ensuring continuous development.
* Foster strong communication, ensuring clarity and consistency across your shift team and other departments.
* Use problem-solving skills to quickly identify root causes of issues and implement effective solutions.
* Adapt to staffing changes, reallocate tasks when team members are absent to maintain productivity. Conduct return-to-work interviews and ensure compliance with absence procedures.
* Manage performance and conduct, addressing concerns where necessary, keeping records, and escalating issues to HR and management as needed.
* Provide comprehensive shift handovers, including reports on downtime, wastage, and output. Share key updates for the incoming shift, including maintenance concerns.
* Work closely with fellow Shift Managers to ensure adequate cover for absences and holidays.
* Ensure break rooms and changing areas are clean and well-maintained at the end of each shift.
* Step in as needed to operate machinery and provide hands-on support to your team.
Skills & Experience:
* Experience in leading shifts within Manufacturing (minimum of 3 years)
* BRC auditing experience (desirable but not essential)
* Experience in plastic manufacturing is desirable but not essential.
* Experience in high-volume manufacturing
* Good communication skills and experience in Word applications.
