We are seeking
a Post-doctoral scientist with a PhD in Mathematics or Engineering degree, to take up a joint position working with Prof Ling-Pei Ho's and Prof Helen Byrne’s groups, based at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine and Mathematics Institute, and in collaboration with Dr Anna Sher, GSK.The successful candidate will join a growing research programme in immune mechanisms of lung fibrosis and alveolar regeneration in chronic lung fibrosis. They will develop mathematical models to better understand immune drivers of fibrotic lung diseases, focusing on idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a specific type of chronic progressive lung fibrosis with particularly poor outcomes. Much of our understanding of the disease mechanism has been gleaned from imperfect animal models of injury and repair response, and blood samples from IPF patients. In recent years, we have studied lung tissues from patients with IPF and identified and characterised areas of advancing disease in the lungs.
