What we are looking to achieve: We are in the process of building a new platform/marketplace with a user interface, registration, profile creation, service list, payment integration, reviews and ratings, dispute resolution, etc. We require an IT project manager to oversee the operations and projects of our development team and platform in general.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing various IT projects from inception to completion, ensuring that they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. This role requires a strong understanding of project management methodologies, as well as excellent communication and negotiation skills. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in facilitating requirements gathering, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring effective release management.
Role responsibilities and skills:
1. Defining Project Scope and Requirements
o Gathering and clarifying requirements: Work closely with stakeholders (product owners, developers, designers, and leadership) to collect user stories, business requirements, and platform needs.
o Prioritizing features: Evaluate which features and improvements will have the highest impact on user experience and on the platform’s goals (e.g., improving user acquisition, increasing order volume).
o Setting clear objectives: Document project scopes in terms of deliverables, timelines, and success metrics.
2. Planning and Scheduling
o Creating a project roadmap: Develop a structured plan, setting milestones and deadlines for each phase of the project (design, development, testing, and launch).
o Resource allocation: Determine which team members (developers, designers, QA) or external resources (freelancers, agencies) are needed at each stage.
o Budget and cost management: Work with finance and leadership to estimate budgets, track spending, and ensure that projects remain financially viable.
3. Coordinating Cross-Functional Teams
o Facilitating communication: Ensure that relevant departments (engineering, marketing, customer support, etc.) understand the project’s goals, timelines, and dependencies.
o Agile collaboration: In many digital projects, project managers adopt Agile or Scrum frameworks—organizing sprints, stand-ups, and sprint reviews to keep everyone aligned.
o Issue resolution: Proactively identify potential roadblocks (technical, scheduling, or resource-related) and coordinate across teams to resolve them quickly.
4. Overseeing Implementation and Quality Assurance
o Tracking progress: Monitor project status through regular check-ins, progress reports, and project management tools (like Jira, Trello, or Asana).
o Risk management: Identify and mitigate risks related to technology, scheduling, or external dependencies (for instance, changes to third-party APIs).
o Quality control and testing: Collaborate with QA teams or testers to ensure that new features, updates, or integrations perform as intended before going live.
5. Stakeholder Management and Communication
o Regular status updates: Keep sponsors and senior management informed about key milestones, changes in scope, and risks that might require escalation.
o User feedback and iteration: Interpret user feedback from beta tests or live metrics, then work with the product and development teams to iterate rapidly.
o Client/freelancer considerations: On a marketplace, the project manager also needs to stay informed on the evolving needs of both freelancers and their clients—ensuring platform enhancements align with user expectations.
6. Post-Launch and Continuous Improvement
o Performance monitoring: Track KPIs (e.g., user engagement, transaction volume, conversion rates) after project launch to evaluate success and gather insights for future improvements.
o Retrospectives: Conduct post-launch or sprint retrospective meetings to identify what went well and what could be optimized in future projects.
o Maintenance and support: Ensure that the ongoing maintenance schedule is defined and that support teams have the necessary documentation and resources.
7. Cultural and Team Leadership
o Encouraging collaboration: Foster an environment in which team members feel comfortable sharing ideas and feedback.
o Mentorship: Coach junior team members, business analysts, or other project coordinators, helping them grow professionally.
o Championing a user-centric mindset: Keep everyone focused on the ultimate goal: improving user experience and satisfaction on the marketplace platform.
