Job summary University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) is recruiting to a Fixed Term Locum Consultant Clinical Oncologist (10 PA) post for a 6m fixed term period. The successful candidate will be required to deliver Breast-Oncology and independently manage a patient caseload, whilst being supported by an innovative and supportive clinical team and a dedicated administrative team. The successful candidate will join a team of Consultant Oncologists, delivering Oncology care across the Birmingham region. The post is a 10 PA role. The role will be based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The clinical facilities for the Oncology service are based across a range of sites at UHB. Bespoke day case units at Good Hope, Solihull, Heartlands and QE provide systemic anti-cancer treatments and outpatient services, whilst the QE site also has dedicated Oncology inpatient wards for acute emergency admissions (Ward 622) and planned inpatient elective treatment (Ward 623). There is also a designated Young Persons Day Unit (YPU) and Young Persons Inpatient Unit, delivering systemic anti-cancer treatment as day case and inpatient. Radiotherapy services are based in the Cancer Centre and in the Heritage Building. The Acute Oncology Service (AOS) covers the four hospital sites, offering co-ordinated care for patients across the Birmingham region. The service is led collaboratively by a Clinical Nursing Team and is supported by Consultant Oncologist. Main duties of the job The successful appointee will deliver breast-oncology care, deliver outpatient clinics, consent to anti-cancer treatment, lead on tumour specific MDTs and deliver specialist inpatient care. Job plans will be agreed upon recruitment but will include the above key responsibilities to a 10PA schedule. Duties of the post The site specialist interests will be agreed on acceptance of the post. Provisionally, Breast Oncology tumour sites will be covered, with outpatient clinics at QEH. Clinical The appointee should be experienced in the management of patients with Oncological tumours and malignancies, specific interest in Breast. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop disease specific areas of interest, working alongside the current Oncology team. In keeping with the departments ambition as a teaching hospital, the appointee will have the opportunity to engage in research and would be encouraged to utilise world class expertise based on Campus within the University of Birmingham (UoB), the Cancer Research Clinical Trials Unit and the Institute for Translational Medicine to progress the research strategy under the umbrella of Birmingham Health Partners. Outpatients The appointee will be expected to provide outpatient care through a set number of clinics per week. They will also contribute to speciality MDTs and participate in monthly mortality and morbidity meetings, quality meetings and educational sessions.
