Role Responsibility
Kent County Council is looking for an innovative and dedicated Energy and Sustainability Lead to join our Hard FM Team within the Deputy Chief Executive Department. Key Responsibilities:
- Strategy Development: Develop and implement an estate sustainability strategy for KCC buildings, influencing relevant policies.
- Energy Management: Manage the relationship with our Energy bureau and engage with the Hard FM Services contractor to reduce energy consumption.
- Technical Advice: Provide professional advice on energy-consuming infrastructure to optimize carbon and energy efficiency.
- C ompliance Monitoring: Track sustainability-related legal compliance and industry best practices.
- Project Management: Guide energy projects to ensure returns on investment and savings are achieved.
- Energy Reduction Plans: Formulate short, medium, and long-term plans to reduce energy consumption, including no-cost and low-cost initiatives.
- Sustainability Assessments: Conduct BREEAM and LEED building assessments and recommend improvements.
- Customer Focus: Deliver excellent customer service and foster an innovative work environment.
Qualifications
- Level 4 qualification in energy and sustainability, mechanical or electrical engineering, or building services.
- Relevant energy efficiency, low carbon, and sustainability qualifications.
- Professional membership (e.g., CIBSE, Energy Institute).
Experience:
- Proven experience in energy management, including procurement and compliance.
- Experience in developing and implementing energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives.
- Knowledge of BMS and control theory.
- Experience in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong project management skills with the ability to communicate strategies to project teams and senior staff.
- Ability to conduct full energy surveys and recommend improvements.
- Proficient in interpreting energy data for reduction strategies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to different audiences.
- Capable of working independently and taking responsibility for decisions.
Knowledge:
- Understanding of BREEAM and its application in building sustainability performance.
- In-depth knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, and lighting operations and integration.
- Extensive knowledge of energy efficiency techniques and technologies.
