London Museum is advertising for 3 Project Assistants (Archaeology) and 1 Project Assistant (Depositions), both posts ideally suited for early careers applicants with an interest in archaeological finds and archives. We welcome applications for one or both roles.
In both roles you will join the Archaeological Archive team at our Hackney Store at one of the most exciting points in its history as we undertake a huge project to better understand how London's past is represented in our collection.
You will be working to improve and expand our archaeological collections data, building new digital assets, addressing documentation backlogs and resolving legacy inventory issues.
1. As a Project Assistant (Archaeology), you will repack, catalogue and barcode part of our bulk legacy archive. You'll have the chance to work closely with a range of archaeological materials, learn about the Archaeological Archive repacking and cataloguing standards, and improve access and understanding of underrepresented areas of the Museum collections (archaeological bulk).
2. As a Project Assistant (Depositions), you will assess new depositions, highlighting discrepancies or anomalies, to ensure all material is archived according to the museum’s standards. You will also be involved in the cataloguing of material from newly deposited sites.
Both of these roles would suit someone who has a background in archaeology, who wants to grow their experience in cataloguing and learn about collections management. We are looking for a goal-driven person with the ability to work to deadlines in a project environment, who can manage their own workload and time effectively and likes to see things through to the end.
To apply, please click on 'Apply for this role'. Applications are by application form. Please include in your application which of these roles you are most interested in. The closing date for applications is Sunday 17 November 2024. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview on Monday 2 December 2024.
London Museum is committed to equal opportunities and diversity. We particularly welcome applications from disabled, Black, Asian and ethnically diverse candidates, who are currently under-represented in our organisation.
