This is an exciting opportunity to fill a new role delivering low-intensity interventions that support people to reduce or stop their use of alcohol or drugs, and promote access to other services and support to improve their physical and emotional wellbeing.
The Role
Via deliver a range of services supporting the health and wellbeing of our diverse communities in the London Borough of Redbridge - including adult and young people’s drug and alcohol services, sexual health, smoking cessation, and outreach.
We are looking for someone with an interest in supporting people to make changes that will improve their health and wellbeing, particularly their use of alcohol or drugs.
Based in our psychosocial team, this new role will provide you with significant scope for growth and innovation within a supportive and friendly multidisciplinary team of clinical and non-clinical professionals.
The main purpose of this role is to promote the benefits of cutting down or quitting alcohol or drug use, and to deliver lower-intensity evidence-based psychosocial behaviour change interventions to people who are assessed as lower risk but would like professional support and guidance to make changes to their alcohol or drug use as part of a healthy lifestyle.
Other responsibilities will include the following:
• To work with our clinical colleagues to promote and deliver testing for blood borne viruses and support the service to maintain Hepatitis C elimination status.
• Work with colleagues in our sexual health team to promote and increase uptake of STI self-test kits and C-Card (free condom) scheme.
• Promote the benefits of quitting smoking and encourage people to refer for smoking cessation support to our in-house smoking cessation team.
• To support people to identify and refer to other services in the community that can support their wellbeing and quality of life – such as talking therapies, befriending, volunteering, social prescribing, and advice and advocacy services.
• To take part in awareness and engagement events that promote Via’s services in Redbridge.
Within this role, you will be provided with training in motivational interviewing, Via’s treatment pathways and tools, and complete Via’s Tackling Substance Misuse Level 3 qualification. As well as the opportunity to complete a wide range of other learning available at Via.
Location and Hours
The role is predominantly based at our main hub in Ilford Chambers, 11 Chapel Road, Ilford IG1 2DR but the role will involve travel to satellites and events within the borough, and to other Via locations as needed.
