As a Multi-Skilled Building Maintenance Engineer/Builder you'll play a key role at the centre of our operation, where every action you take contributes to our customers enjoying their favourite M&S food. Our operation in Barnsley is looking for candidates who can commit to a Monday to Friday days shift pattern but with flexibility as and when required.

What will you do & what will you need
As a part of your role, you will be responsible for maintaining the facilities of the site, minor building works, joinery, plumbing, and some mechanical repairs such as roller doors, ensuring work is carried out in accordance with the required schedule and manufacturer guidelines. Moreover, you will be responsible for carrying out all breakdowns and reactive works to high standards and within the given timeframe. You should be able to accurately diagnose faults with the equipment or fabric of the building and communicate technical information to your teammates and escalate any issues to your line manager. You should also possess a keen eye for detail and ensure that all work is accurately documented.
Ideally, you’ll have previous experience in a fast-paced distribution environment. Hold an NVQ Level 3 in a relevant field or equivalent and possess good knowledge of general building principles.

Gist Barnsley is one of our original distribution centers with an impressive warehouse of 222,000 square feet. The site was opened in 1971 to exclusively service the Marks & Spencer (M&S) Food contract. Various extensions have been added to the original building to enhance capacity and support our network growth. We currently have 488 colleagues at site. We provide free parking and the number 12 bus stop is within a 10-minute walk from site.
