Senior Liaison and Diversion Practitioner (B5/B6 Development Role) (NHS AfC: Band 5 - Band 6) - Liaison and Diversion Service - Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust – Guildford, Surrey
The Surrey Liaison and Diversion Service is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated, registered mental health professional to join our Police Custody and Court Team as a Senior Liaison and Diversion Practitioner. This position is suitable for a current Band 5 or Band 6 wishing to develop into a Band 6 role.
Our passionate Liaison and Diversion team supports individuals who have come into contact with the youth and criminal justice system, using a caring, compassionate, person-centered approach to vulnerability screening and assessment for those aged 10 and above. We provide high-quality community-based interventions to improve health and social care outcomes and reduce future re-offending.
You will work collaboratively with Mental Health Services, Drug and Alcohol Services, Social Care, Probation, Prison Healthcare, Court, and Custody colleagues. This role requires you to provide clinical expertise, be organized and efficient, and will be based primarily within police custody. You will also need to travel between Surrey Police Custody and Court locations during the working day. A full driving license is required, as the police custody suites are located in Staines, Guildford, and Salfords. Our service operates shifts from 07:00 to 19:00.
Your responsibilities will include gathering and recording health, social circumstances, and risk information as part of your vulnerability assessments and Mental Health Assessments. These assessments will cover mental health concerns, substance misuse, and learning disabilities, from which you will develop clear care plans and risk management plans to promote the safe onward care of vulnerable individuals leaving police custody, whether they are remanded to a court or prison or returning to the community.
You will also provide clinical expertise to the Liaison and Diversion Team, Surrey Police, and associated teams. Your written assessments will support police decision-making and assist the Courts in understanding and responding to the assessed person’s needs appropriately.
If you are keen to learn and grow your skills in clinical excellence and leadership within a fast-paced, rapidly growing team, this may be the role for you.
This role requires both enhanced DBS clearance and Sussex Police clearances (NPPV level 2), which we will assist the successful candidate in applying for.
Our Liaison and Diversion Service is committed to developing our Practitioners by encouraging and providing opportunities for Continued Professional Development, participation in Quality Improvement initiatives, and driving clinical excellence.
