The Registered Nurse (RN) reports to the Director of Care and is expected to coordinate and oversee all aspects of resident-focused delivery of care. Provide direct supervision, leadership, and education to other members of the healthcare team.
Acts as a resource and advocate for residents, families, and staff, promoting the values, goals, and philosophy of the Home.
Responsibilities
* Development and modification of care plans in response to residents’ changes in status.
* Liaises with other health care personnel, agencies, and families.
* Maintains good relationships with Medical/Support/Home staff, residents, families, and the general public.
* Supervises all activities on the unit and takes charge as required.
* Monitors performance and completes performance evaluations for PSWs.
* Directs, assigns, and evaluates the work of PSWs.
* May be in charge of the Home as required, utilizing leadership skills to identify problems and solve them on the unit.
* Monitors that care delivered is consistent with the resident Bill of Rights.
* Participates in the improvement of quality indicators and achieves satisfactory results.
* Orders and ensures nursing supplies and equipment are properly and efficiently used according to policies of the Home.
* Actively listens to residents and family concerns and takes appropriate actions to resolve issues.
* Conducts unit rounds at the beginning and end of shifts.
* Processes physician orders and administers medications and treatments in compliance with policies.
* Maintains accurate and complete records of nursing observations and care.
* Assesses changes in health status and reports changes to the Substitute Decision Maker (SDM) or POA, and interdisciplinary team.
* Completes health care assessments (RAI-MDS and other assessments) and develops and updates plans of care.
* Demonstrates understanding of mandatory reporting and critical incidents.
* Other duties as assigned or indicated in Job Task Inventory.
Qualifications
* Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.
* Basic CPR certification.
* Experience in a long-term care setting is an asset.
* Ability to work with and relate to interdisciplinary team members.
* Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
* Knowledge of RAI-MDS – AIS certified, or must complete successfully within one year of hire.
* Focus on people’s feelings when interacting and turning tasks into positive social interactions.
* Must meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals’ rights.
* Must provide a complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check or be willing to obtain one.
* Documented results of TB testing or chest X-ray required as per Public Health requirements.
* Two supervisory references required.
* COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment.
* French or Italian speaking is an asset for specific residences.
