The Role
We’re looking for a highly organised and proactive Studio Manager to drive and manage the flow of work through the Design department. You’ll act as a key liaison, making sure designers have the materials they need when they need them, and ensuring teams such as Sales, Marketing, and Rights receive necessary design assets on time. This role requires exceptional organisational skills, clear communication, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy and creative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Workflow & Project Management – Control and track work through the Design department, ensuring projects progress efficiently from briefing to final production.
* Cross-Team Coordination – Act as a key liaison between Design, Editorial, Production, Sales, Marketing, and Rights teams, ensuring smooth communication and workflow.
* Financial & Administrative Support – Track design-related spending, process invoices, and assist with budgeting.
* Process Improvement – Maintain and refine workflows to enhance efficiency and ensure best practices are followed.
* Freelancer Management – Oversee freelancer contracts, scheduling, and payments.
* Team Support – Provide administrative support to the Head of Design and team, from scheduling and minuting meetings to onboarding new team members.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
* Proven experience as a Studio Manager, Production Manager, or Project Manager in a creative industry, preferably book publishing.
* Strong organisational and administration skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for liaising across departments and with freelancers.
* Excellent command of Microsoft Office; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
* Understanding of publishing processes, particularly the interaction between design, editorial, and production.
* Experience of invoice processing and financial tracking.
* Ability to anticipate challenges and remain resilient and solution-focused.
