Lead on the delivering of national maternity requirements/plans ensuring that the vision, values and strategic themes of the Trust are integrated and that delivery is focused on improving outcomes and experience for women using our services. Have delegated accountability and responsibility from the Chief Nurse and Director of Integrated Professions for ensuring professional leadership and governance of maternity services. Work with the Clinical Director, Head of Midwifery, Consultant Midwife, Care Group Manager and Care Group Director to ensure the service meets all external requirements relating to Maternity services in relation to national plans, MSSP, CQC, CNST and MNSI etc. Work with the Clinical Director to continue to develop an open and respectful culture where teams are confident and skilled in providing regular, constructive feedback, where issues can be raised and solved openly, leading to improvements for women, their families and for staff. Develop, lead and manage key quality metrics identifying areas for improvement and the mitigation of risk. Also engaging with teams to implement safe solutions that continually improve the outcomes and experience of women and their families. Actively establish and build a wide range of effective networks, contacts and partnerships within and external to the Trust which are used to inform and influence improvements in service delivery and outcomes.
Main duties of the job
Develop a culture where safe and high-quality women/patient centred care is consistently delivered by those working in midwifery with a focus on innovation and continuous improvements in the quality of service delivery. Ensure that effective risk management and systems of governance are in place for midwifery and nursing (clinical, financial, staff, audit and information) through proactive management of the services in conjunction with the Care Group Director and other colleagues as appropriate. Ensuring that CNST/CQC/MSSP Standards are understood and embedded within service delivery, including communication, delivery and monitoring of ongoing performance.

The Director of Midwifery will:
* Be a Registered Midwife with current NMC registration.
* Have a Masters Degree in a relevant subject.
* Have significant experience in a leadership role as Head of Midwifery or above.
* Have a Leadership qualification.
Keep up to date with national, local and organisational developments and work with the Care Group Director to support development and delivery of services within available resources. Be responsible for ensuring there is a robust model for Professional Midwifery Advocacy in place for all midwives employed by the Trust. Be responsible for providing specialist midwifery advice to the Trust Board of Directors. Work with the senior nursing team to ensure the quality of care and shared learning across all areas.

* Recent senior midwifery operational role in an acute setting.
* Extensive demonstrable experience of leading/managing clinical governance within an acute setting.

* Educated to master's level in a healthcare related subject, or undertaking master's programme.
Qualifications

* BSc in healthcare or equivalent.
* Completion of recognised leadership programme.
