Functional Skills Assessor – Alternative Provision (South Tyneside, September 2025 Start) Are you an experienced Functional Skills Assessor passionate about supporting young people and young adults in gaining essential qualifications? This provision is dedicated to supporting learners aged 14 to 25 who require a personalised and flexible learning approach, helping them build confidence, achieve qualifications, and develop skills for life and employment. The Role: Assess Functional Skills Maths and English (Level 1 & 2) for learners aged 14 to 25. Support students through classroom-based and community-based learning, ensuring assessments are accessible, engaging, and relevant. Work with small groups of 15-20 learners in the first year, adapting assessment methods to meet individual needs. Provide constructive feedback and tailored support, ensuring learners progress at their own pace. Maintain accurate records of assessments, progress tracking, and compliance with awarding body requirements. Collaborate with tutors/trainers and wider staff to support learner success. The Ideal Candidate: Holds an Assessing qualification (e.g., A1, TAQA, CAVA, or equivalent). Has experience assessing Functional Skills Maths and English at Level 1 & 2. Understands alternative provisions, PRUs, SEMH settings, or learners with additional needs. Has a flexible and innovative approach to assessment, incorporating real-life and practical application where possible. Can build strong relationships with learners, supporting their confidence and motivation. Holds (or is willing to obtain) an enhanced DBS check on the update service. Why Join Us?
