Join us as a Software Engineer at Barclays where you'll develop features for the electronic FX business that requires a high degree of problem-solving skills and technical ability. You will be directly communicating with traders, quants and other technology teams in this role. You will have the opportunity to develop your C++ skills on the job, while also gaining domain knowledge about FX pricing mechanics, even if you don’t have prior experience in either area.
To be successful as a Software Engineer, you should have:
1. Experience with one of the following object-oriented languages (C++, C#, Java).
2. Strong communication skills – this person will be communicating with business users and quants as well as other technology teams.
3. Comfort and proactivity to engage the business to gather requirements.
4. Experience in building enterprise scale applications - gather requirements, propose solutions, collaborate on development, release features, and support production systems.
5. Basic understanding of FX pricing.
6. Proficiency in SQL.

Purpose of the Role:
To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities:
1. Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
2. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
3. Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
4. Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
5. Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
6. Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
7. Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
