This is an exciting time to join the Blood Sciences department. The department is a new purpose-built laboratory with several new platforms.
Associate Practitioners work as part of a team supporting the Biomedical Scientific staff in the effective provision of the Blood Sciences service. Biomedical Scientists analyse blood and body fluids for the presence or absence of abnormal pathology. This information can then be used to enable diagnosis and monitor the effectiveness of treatment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Undertake a range of manual laboratory investigations and procedures with minimal supervision.
2. Adhere strictly to standard operating procedures (SOPs) used within the laboratory, drawing to the attention of Biomedical Scientists the loss of performance of quality control material and/or equivocal laboratory results.
3. Operate and carry out maintenance on selected laboratory equipment.
4. Perform basic troubleshooting for assays being run and decide when to inform a more experienced member of staff following standard operational SOPs.
5. Undertake pre and post-analytical checks to audit the accuracy of specimen reception.
6. Operate laboratory equipment adhering to set protocols and procedures.
