We are seeking an Associate to join the Relationship Lending Group (“RLG”) which sits within the Transaction Execution and Risk Management team (“TERM”). TERM is part of Investment Banking in the Global Banking & Markets - Private Division of Goldman Sachs and is part of the firm’s “first line of defence” in managing risk arising from debt financing transactions.
RLG is responsible for structuring, executing and advising on relationship based lending and certain other financing transactions requiring a capital commitment from Goldman Sachs. Types of transactions cover a broad range of leveraged and investment grade debt transactions including unsecured and secured revolvers (including ABLs and Borrowing Base facilities), term loans, bridge loans, IPO-contingent and pre-IPO facilities in the context of primary loan syndication, relationship commitments concurrent with best efforts transactions, refinancings, restructurings, complex amendments, secondary market purchases and bilateral lending. RLG clients include financial sponsors and their portfolio companies, corporations, governments and sovereign wealth funds and pre-IPO high growth companies.
Responsibilities
1. Work closely with multiple internal and external stakeholders through all stages of the execution process – liaising with various internal teams (including Credit Risk and Legal) to ensure that transaction risks are understood and signed off for our hold purposes
2. Provide transaction management and help to drive execution
3. Participate in internal capital committee approval processes including contribution to the committee memos and attendance at preparatory briefings and the relevant committee meeting as required to ensure that any documentation, structural and/or transaction risks are appropriately reflected and approved
Requisite skillset
4. Preference for at least 4-5 years of related financial services experience
5. Solid credit analysis skills and a good understanding of financing documentation
6. Accurate and detail-oriented with demonstrated technical proficiency
7. Sound judgment and integrity
8. Excellent communication skills: ability to speak with internal and external parties, such as deal teams, syndication banks and GS clients
9. Strong organizational skills: able to manage multiple tasks and competing work streams and deadlines
10. Highly motivated and adaptable: ability to respond creatively and quickly in a fast-paced, high-pressure, changing environment
11. Good collaborative skills: ability to work well with team members and across multiple other internal teams, motivated to train and advise junior team members
